Albany County Legislature To Consider Downsizing

The Albany County Legislature may consider a move to downsize the county legislature from 39 to 29 districts (but to go into effect after the 2020 redistricting). According to the Times Union, “County lawmakers could vote as soon as Monday to send voters a proposal to shrink the legislature by 10 seats, but ambivalence within the Democratic majority left the fate of that vote unclear late this week.”

The County is also fighting an award to plaintiff attorneys who successfully challenged the county legislature over the failure to create a 5th minority district.
