State Assembly Group Wants to Change Proposed Presidential Primary Date That Conflicts with Passover

In the NY Daily News, Ken Lovett reports that “a group of dozens of state Assembly Democrats wants to change next year’s proposed presidential primary date because it falls during the Jewish holiday of Passover.

“The proposal to conduct a presidential primary on April 26, 2016 is offensive to the very principles of the Democratic party,” the group of 71 Dems, led by former Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan), wrote Wednesday in a letter to the Democratic National Committee.

The letter warned against “offending and disenfranchising constituents” and urged the DNC to pick a date “that is not during Passover season in an attempt to recognize the sensitivities associated with conducting a primary during Passover.”
