Albany County’s New Minority-Majority District Goes To White Candidate

Sam Fein, a 25 year old State Assembly staff member, won last week’s primary election to become the Democratic candidate in a new county legislative  minority  district created as a result of a federal Voting Rights Act lawsuit against Albany County. While two minority districts were created as a result of the lawsuit, Fein beat two minority candidates  in one of the districts for the seat, demonstrating once again that districts preferred candidates, not always candidates of color. The other minority district primary was won by an African American candidate.

The election was covered in the Times Union by Jordan Carleo-Evangelist.
