Today’s Albany Times Union editorial urges voters to reject the charter revision proposal on tomorrow’s ballot. Calling it an “insult to their intelligence,” the paper is particularly critical of the redistricting changes, where the amendment would maintain “a 39-member legislature, exactly what it has now, and a new redistricting commission with four members appointed by – wait for it – the legislature, and three more appointed by those legislative appointees.
What a sham.
Oh, the proposal does allow the size of the legislature to be reduced to as little as 29 – if the legislature agrees to it. So, voters would lose any chance of ever deciding again how big this bloated body should be.”
