In Politico NY, Colby Hamilton reports that “Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. confirmed Monday that his office received a letter from the state Board of Elections in mid-January referring possible illegal fundraising activities by Mayor Bill de Blasio’s team during the 2014 state Senate races.
But beyond that Vance was circumspect, parrying repeated questions from reporters seeking details on the investigation during an unrelated press conference at the Manhattan DA office.
The matter, he said, is currently under investigation by his office. But Vance declined to discuss the status of the investigation, or whether the leak of the BOE letter to the press — whether by the BOE’s chief enforcement counsel, Risa Sugarman, or someone else — was hampering the investigation or presented any additional legal concerns.
“I’m confident that we can do our job as we would expect, irrespective of the letter’s disclosure,” Vance said.”
