100 NYS Women Leaders Call for Voting Rights As Top Priority for 2017 Budget
When: Monday, March 13 – 1:00PM Press Event
Where: Steps of the Million Dollar Staircase
Who: Members of the New York State Legislature, 32BJ SEIU, Brennan Center for Justice, Citizen Action of New York, Common Cause New York, NYS League of Women Voters, Working Families (List in formation)
Why: This year New York State is commemorating the 100 year anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.100 years later, women leaders of the legislature and across New York are joining together calling on the state’s leadership to begin to move New York’s voting laws into the 21st century! Governor Cuomo included voting rights reforms in his executive budget. The State Assembly has long supported and championed such reforms. At a time when we celebrate the accomplishment and campaign of hard fought women’s suffrage in New York, now is the time to finally move pro-democracy reform at the state level. Early Voting and Automatic Voter Registration should be enacted as a part of the 2017 budget.
