Cuomo Introduces Comprehensive Election Reform Proposal

Just in time for a holiday present for election law advocates, Governor Cuomo will propose a number of reforms next year. As reported by Ryan Whalen in NY State of Politics,”Cuomo’s plan would make it easier for citizens both to register to vote and cast their ballot. The proposal would institute early voting in the state, requiring at least on poll site be open in every county for the 12 days leading up to election day.

The governor’s also calling for the state to adopt an automatic voter registration system which would send  voters’ information directly to the county board of elections. Voters who do not want to be registered would have to check an “opt out” box.”
